The Courts Service Annual Report 2025 provides an overview of court activity and case volumes across all jurisdictions during 2025.

Criminal Law

  • 379,262 new criminal matters were presented to the courts.

  • 337,416 criminal matters were resolved.

  • 29,611 serious crime cases were finalised, up 22% from 2022.

  • District Court drugs cases increased by 8% year on year.

  • Public order and assault cases increased by 11% over two years.

  • Road traffic offences decreased by 22% compared with 2019.

  • 58% of rape sentences imposed were for terms of 10 years or more.

Civil Law

  • Almost 188,000 new civil cases were initiated across all courts.

  • 150,766 civil cases were completed.

  • New civil cases increased by 34% over the last five years.

  • The High Court recorded a 36% increase in new civil cases compared with 2022.

  • Personal injury cases totalled 14,661, remaining 33% below 2019 levels.

Family Law and Personal Applications

  • The District Court received 27,429 new domestic violence applications.

  • Domestic violence applications increased by 34% compared with 2019.

  • 5,047 divorce applications were filed during the year.

  • 1,839 Civil Restraining Orders were granted during the first full year of the legislation.

High Court and Specialised Jurisdictions

  • Asylum, Immigration and Citizenship judicial review cases increased by 35%.

  • Possession cases increased by 46% compared with 2022.

  • Extradition applications increased by 30% year on year.

  • Recovery of debt cases increased by 25% over four years.
